Direct talks with Putin are part of ‘Trump Doctrine’ – Vance — RT World News

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has defended President Donald Trump’s decision to resume direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it a crucial step toward peace in Ukraine. In an interview with Fox News, Vance emphasized that diplomatic engagement is essential even when one disagrees with a leader’s actions. “You don’t have to agree with Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine, but if you want to bring about peace, you’ve got to be strong, and you’ve also got to talk to people,” he said.

Vance highlighted Trump’s foreign‑policy approach, which pairs a strong military posture with a willingness to negotiate in good faith. This marks a departure from the previous administration’s strategy of isolating Russia on the world stage. Trump has restarted direct talks with Moscow and urged Ukraine to revive negotiations that were suspended in 2022. Although the recent summit between Trump and Putin in Alaska produced no major breakthroughs, both leaders described it as a positive step toward ending the Russia‑Ukraine conflict.

A planned follow‑up summit in Budapest has been postponed indefinitely, but Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reiterated Moscow’s readiness to resume contacts, dismissing contrary media reports as false. The vice president’s defense of Trump’s decision reflects the administration’s commitment to exploring all avenues for peace as the international community continues to seek a resolution to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
