PDP: Expulsion of Wike, others didn’t follow due process — Ex-Rep member

Former Nigerian lawmaker Dachung Bagos has voiced concerns over the recent expulsion of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and ten other members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Bagos argues that the expulsions violated the party’s constitution because they were not carried out through the proper due‑process channels. In an interview with Channels Television, he stressed that disciplinary matters should be handled by a formal committee rather than by a voice vote, and that adherence to procedure is essential even when punitive action is deemed necessary. For Bagos, the timing of the expulsions is less important than whether due process was observed.

Bagos, who previously represented Jos South‑East Constituency in the House of Representatives, also expressed skepticism about the PDP’s future. He warned that the party’s current crisis is unlikely to be resolved soon, citing a need for greater transparency and strict compliance with constitutional rules. The expulsions have sparked controversy within the PDP, with some members questioning the legitimacy of the decision and criticizing the party leadership under Umar Damagum for its handling of the matter.

The episode adds to a series of internal conflicts and power struggles that have plagued the PDP, raising doubts about its ability to present a unified front in upcoming elections. The removal of high‑profile figures such as Wike has intensified these concerns, underscoring the urgency for the party to address its internal issues and chart a clear direction. As the PDP navigates this turbulent period, political observers and analysts will closely monitor how the expulsions affect its internal dynamics and future electoral prospects.
