Mwanza Court Adjourns Election-Related Case to November 26
A court in Mwanza has adjourned the case of 11 suspects accused of involvement in criminal incidents during the October 29, 2025, general election to November 26, 2025. The suspects, all from Nyamagana District in Mwanza City, face charges including destruction of public property, armed robbery, and holding unauthorized demonstrations.
The case came up for mention on November 17, 2025, before Principal Resident Magistrate Ramla Shihagilo. State Prosecutor Mahembega Elias informed the court that investigations were still ongoing and requested an adjournment. Magistrate Shihagilo granted the request, and the case was adjourned to November 26, 2025. The suspects will remain in custody as the charges they face are not bailable.
The suspects are represented by a team of five lawyers from the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) Mwanza Chapter, led by Advocate Erick Mutta. According to the charge sheet, the accused face two counts of property destruction by setting various items on fire, contrary to Sections 319(a) and (b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 16, Revised Edition 2023. They are also charged with armed robbery, contrary to Section 287A of the same law.
The incidents allegedly occurred between October 29 and 31, 2025, in Nyamagana District. The prosecution’s request for an adjournment indicates that investigations into the matter are still incomplete. The adjournment will allow the prosecution to finalize its investigations and gather more evidence before proceeding with the case.
The case is one of several related to the October 29, 2025, general election, which was marked by reports of violence and unrest in some parts of the country. The adjournment of this case to November 26, 2025, will give the prosecution time to complete its investigations and prepare for the next stage of the trial. The outcome of the case will be closely watched, as it will have implications for the rule of law and the administration of justice in the country.
