The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not dead, according to Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s expelled National Secretary. Anyanwu made this statement during an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a program on Channels Television, where he expressed optimism that the party would overcome its current crisis and regain its status as a preferred party.
Anyanwu’s comments come amid the ongoing turmoil within the PDP, which has led to speculation about the party’s future. However, the former governorship candidate in Imo State remains hopeful, drawing an analogy between the party’s situation and a person in an intensive care unit who can still recover. He emphasized that even in challenging circumstances, the PDP can still bounce back.
Anyanwu also addressed his relationship with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, which has faced criticism. He clarified that although he was not part of the G5 group, which included Wike, Makinde, Ugwuanyi, Ikpeazu, and Ortom, he considers Wike a close friend. Anyanwu acknowledged Wike’s role in revitalizing the PDP when it was facing difficulties, stating that Wike’s efforts helped resurrect the party.
The PDP has been grappling with internal conflicts and power struggles, leading to concerns about its ability to remain a viable political force. Anyanwu’s statements suggest that despite these challenges, the party still has a chance to navigate its stormy waters and regain its footing. As the party continues to navigate its internal conflicts, Anyanwu’s comments may offer a glimmer of hope for its supporters and members. The outcome of the PDP’s efforts to address its internal issues will be crucial in determining the party’s future prospects and its ability to remain a significant player in the country’s political landscape.
