COAS order troops to intensify rescue operation — Daily Nigerian

The Nigerian Army has stepped up its efforts to rescue 25 students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. The kidnapping occurred on Monday when suspected bandits seized the pupils and killed the vice‑principal. During an operational tour of the state, Chief of Army Staff Lt‑Gen. Waidi Shaibu ordered troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA to conduct intelligence‑driven operations and pursue the abductors relentlessly, stressing that “success is not optional.”

Lt‑Gen. Shaibu also met with local vigilance groups and hunters, acknowledging their crucial role and urging them to cooperate with the military to locate and neutralize the criminals. In a condolence visit to the Traditional Ruler of Danko and the school’s principal, he reaffirmed the army’s commitment to rescuing the students unharmed and called on troops to remain resilient, professional, and compliant with the rules of engagement while working to restore peace in Kebbi State and surrounding areas.

The incident has heightened concerns about student safety in the region and underscored the need for stronger security measures to protect educational institutions. The army’s response forms part of a broader strategy to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges, including banditry and kidnapping. The rescue operation remains ongoing as troops gather intelligence and track the perpetrators. International partners have been urged to support Nigeria’s efforts to combat insecurity and secure the safe release of the abducted children. The Nigerian Army remains dedicated to restoring stability so that children can attend school without fear of violence.
