SDP Candidate Slams PDP Over Leadership Dispute

The Social Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Adewale Adebayo, has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party over the recent standoff between rival factions. In an interview on Arise Television, Adebayo stated that the PDP’s behavior was predictable, given its past actions when in power.

The dispute between the factions, led by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed on one side, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on the other, erupted over control of the party’s headquarters. The clash is part of an ongoing leadership dispute within the PDP. Adebayo noted that the PDP’s lawless behavior when in government has continued, with the party now “cannibalizing” itself.

Adebayo expressed concern over the role of the police in the dispute, stating that the police should remain impartial and not take sides. He emphasized that the police belong to all citizens, whereas the PDP is a private organization that should resolve its internal conflicts without external interference.

The PDP has been embroiled in a leadership crisis, with different factions vying for control of the party. The dispute has led to tensions and clashes between supporters of the rival factions. The situation has raised concerns about the party’s ability to present a united front in the upcoming elections.

The development is significant, as it highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the PDP in resolving its internal conflicts. The party’s ability to manage its internal disputes will be crucial in determining its success in future elections. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the PDP’s leadership crisis is likely to remain a key issue in Nigerian politics.

The incident has also sparked debate about the role of the police in political disputes, with some arguing that the police should remain neutral and avoid taking sides. The situation underscores the need for political parties to resolve their internal conflicts through peaceful means, without resorting to violence or external interference.
