The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has expelled former governor Ayo Fayose, a move the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, describes as a positive development. According to Oluyede, the party will not be destroyed by Fayose’s actions, which he believes have undermined the party’s structure over the past three years.
Oluyede, an Australia-based medical doctor, made these comments after a stakeholders’ meeting in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. He emphasized that the PDP in Ekiti remains united and stronger than before, despite Fayose’s alleged anti-party activities. The party’s leadership has been working to build a strong foundation to ensure victory in the 2026 governorship election.
To address grievances within the party, Oluyede has called on the State Executive, led by Tunji Odeyemi, to establish a reconciliation committee. This committee would focus on resolving issues with aspirants who lost the primary election to Oluyede, as well as party members who are dissatisfied for various reasons.
Regarding the national crisis affecting the PDP, Oluyede downplayed its impact on the party’s chances in Ekiti State. He noted that politics is a local affair and that the party’s national issues would not affect their campaign in the state. Oluyede emphasized that his focus is on gaining the support of the Ekiti people, which he believes is crucial for the party’s success.
The PDP Chairman in Ekiti State, Tunji Odeyemi, also addressed the party members, urging them to engage in effective mobilization at the ward and unit levels to garner support for the party’s flagbearer. Odeyemi expressed his commitment to ensuring the party’s victory in the 2026 governorship election, stating that he would not rest until this goal is achieved.
The expulsion of Ayo Fayose and the party’s efforts to reconcile and mobilize its members are significant developments in the lead-up to the 2026 election. As the PDP in Ekiti State works to build a strong foundation and address internal issues, the party’s ability to present a united front will be crucial in determining its success in the upcoming election.
