The Director‑General of the Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council’s Akwa Ibom State chapter, Capt. Augustine Okon, said on Friday that the mandate awarded to Peter Obi in the recently concluded presidential election will be recovered through legal channels. Speaking at a conference on Thursday, Obi indicated his readiness to challenge the election result. Okon added that the PCC Akwa Ibom State has gathered sufficient evidence to prove that President Obi won the state and will coordinate with the legal team to reclaim the “stolen” mandate. He noted that before the election, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu promised Nigerians that all unit results would be uploaded to the IReV portal via BVAS. Instead, INEC manually collated and announced the results without any notification or explanation.
In the South‑West, the leadership of the Big Tent Campaign Council—an independent group supporting the Labour Party’s presidential candidate—also condemned INEC’s conduct. Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Friday, South‑West Coordinator Mr. Lanre Fadahunsi said there is video evidence of INEC’s failure to follow its own guidelines during the election. “It is quite amusing that the electoral process could be so compromised,” he remarked, citing numerous videos that show neglect of the established procedures for uploading results at every stage.
The Igbo apex socio‑cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, reaffirmed its support for Obi’s decision to contest the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress as winner and president‑elect. In a telephone interview, Ohanaeze spokesperson Alex Ogbonnia asserted that the judiciary would help Obi reclaim the mandate, emphasizing that the irregularities observed during the election were unprecedented.
Finally, the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party expressed sorrow over the deaths of two of its members during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections. Elizabeth Owie, a mother of three, and 33‑year‑old engineer Festus Idahosa were both killed in the violence.
