Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North West local government area of Oyo State have rejected the extension of the acting chairman’s tenure, Mr. Olusola Tokunbo Adekanbi. During an emergency meeting attended by hundreds of party members from the eleven electoral wards, they unanimously called for the immediate resignation of the acting chairman and his team. This move is aimed at allowing the elected chairman, Jelili Asukuna, and other elected officials to assume their rightful positions.
The decision was made to address the problems facing the party in the local government area. A party chieftain, Mr. Adekunle Abass Akande, who moved the motion, emphasized the need for the authentic executives to take over, stating that the current acting chairman and his team are not recognized by the party at the national level. Akande explained that the members want to find solutions to the problems affecting the party and benefit from it, but the current leadership is hindering this.
Remi Ajanaku, a former leader of the Ibadan North West local government area legislative arm, noted that the decision was made to restore sanity in the party. He stated that the members have taken the decision to ask the acting chairman to step aside and allow the authentic chairman to take over, in order to correct the illegal activities happening within the party.
The APC members’ call for the resignation of the acting chairman and his team is a significant development in the party’s efforts to address its internal issues. The move is expected to pave the way for the elected executives to assume their positions and work towards the party’s growth and success. With this decision, the party members are taking a step towards resolving the problems facing the party in the local government area and ensuring that the authentic leaders are at the helm. The development is being closely watched, and the next steps will be crucial in determining the party’s future in the region.
