APC governors urge ASUU to embrace dialogue over warning strike

The Progressive Governors’ Forum, made up of governors elected on the All Progressives Congress platform, has expressed solidarity with the Kebbi State government and the families of the abducted students from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Maga. Chairman Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State led a delegation to Birnin Kebbi to convey support for the ongoing rescue efforts.

The visit follows a tragic attack on Monday in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area that resulted in the abduction of students. Uzodimma called the incident “tragic and unacceptable,” stressing the need for unity in the face of rising insecurity across the country. He assured that the governors are committed to strengthening national security and stand firmly behind President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address the issue.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris thanked the delegation, noting that President Tinubu has assured the state and the parents of the abducted students that the Federal Government is taking necessary steps to ensure their safe rescue. Idris also said clerics have been directed to pray for the students’ safe return and for peace in the state.

The delegation included several governors, ministers and dignitaries, such as Governors Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Ahmed Usman‑Ododo of Kogi and Hyacinth Alia of Benue, as well as Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Senator Atiku Bagudu and Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs Tanko Sununu. The solidarity visit underscores the need for collective action in addressing the country’s security challenges. With the Federal Government’s assurance of support, the people of Kebbi State and the affected families await the safe return of the abducted students, highlighting the urgency of strengthening national security and the Progressive Governors’ Forum’s commitment to this effort.
