A group of 774 former members of the New Nigeria People’s Party have defected to the All Progressives Congress in Rimin Gado Local Government Area. The defectors were received by Alhaji Rabiu Bichi, the Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jam’are River Basin Development Authority, who described their decision as a “lucky” move.
Bichi stated that the APC is the only party capable of driving Nigeria towards meaningful development, citing President Bola Tinubu’s projects in the Northern region as evidence. He mentioned that over 18 major projects worth billions of Naira have been completed in Kano State alone, and that substantial funds are being released to state governments for development. However, he expressed concern that some states are allegedly diverting these resources to other sectors.
The Renewed Hope Agenda, according to Bichi, is already yielding positive results, including economic recovery and improved food security through various agricultural programs. He assured the defectors that they would be fully integrated into the APC and treated as long-standing members.
The leader of the defectors, Mohammad Karofin-Yashi, stated that they joined the APC due to the party’s laudable development initiatives. He expressed confidence that the APC would take Kano and the nation to greater heights and pledged to secure the support of more NNPP members who would soon defect to the APC.
The defection of the 774 NNPP members to the APC is seen as a significant development in the political landscape of Kano State. The APC has been actively working to strengthen its presence in the region, and this latest defection is expected to boost the party’s chances in future elections. With the Renewed Hope Agenda already showing positive results, the APC is poised to continue its development initiatives and improve the lives of Nigerians.
