Taraba schools shut boarding facilities over insecurity

Gov. Kefas absent as Taraba communities hold mass burial for victims of herders' attack

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has directed the immediate closure of boarding facilities in all public and private secondary schools due to rising insecurity across Nigeria. The order, issued through the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, aims to safeguard students from potential threats.

According to Dr. Godwin, the recent surge in attacks nationwide has made boarding students vulnerable to abduction, as seen in the recent incidents in Kebbi and Niger states. To mitigate this risk, Governor Kefas has instructed all secondary schools to operate as day schools until further notice. Principals and school owners have been instructed to dismantle boarding arrangements without delay.

The move is a proactive measure to protect students from potential harm, amid the ongoing unrest in the country. The state government reassures parents of its commitment to restoring safety and is working closely with security agencies to ensure the well-being of students. School authorities have been urged to fully comply with the directive and increase vigilance on their premises.

The decision comes as Nigeria grapples with a wave of insecurity, including kidnappings and attacks on educational institutions. The Taraba State government’s move is seen as a necessary step to prevent potential threats and ensure the safety of students. With the directive, the state aims to minimize risks and provide a secure environment for learning.

The government’s commitment to safety is evident in its collaboration with security agencies to address the ongoing challenges. As the situation continues to unfold, the state government will likely monitor developments and adjust its strategies to ensure the well-being of students and residents. For now, the focus remains on providing a secure environment for learning and restoring normalcy in the affected areas.
