The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant seizures of illicit drugs, recovering tons of substances including tramadol, skunk, and Canadian Loud. According to the NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, a suspected drug trafficker was arrested in connection with the seizure of 139 pouches of Canadian Loud in Lagos, weighing 71kg.
In a separate operation, a lady was arrested in Lekki with 2.6kg of Colorado, packaged in branded containers and concealed in flight boarding cards. Additionally, operatives intercepted a suspect conveying 10.1kg of skunk along the Enugu/Onitsha road. The agency also recovered 105,600 pills of tramadol, 700 ampoules of pentazocine injection, and 3000 rounds of live ammunition.
In Kebbi state, 13,155 bottles of codeine-based syrup were evacuated from a warehouse, while a 23-year-old suspect was arrested with 12,548 pills of opioids concealed in paracetamol containers in Borno. Two suspects were arrested with 430.5kg of substances along the Abaji-Abuja expressway, and another suspect was arrested in Niger state with 85,100 pills of opioids and 5,456 bottles of codeine syrup.
NDLEA operatives also raided a notorious illicit drug enclave in Lagos Island, recovering 385 kilograms of skunk, Loud, and Colorado, and arresting two suspects. Furthermore, 163,200 capsules of tramadol were recovered in another operation in Lagos. The agency has continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities, targeting schools, worship centers, and communities across the country.
The NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, has commended the officers and men involved in the successful operations, urging them to continue their efforts in combating drug abuse. The seizures and arrests highlight the agency’s commitment to tackling the illicit drug trade and reducing the availability of harmful substances in Nigeria. The ongoing efforts of the NDLEA are crucial in addressing the country’s drug problem and promoting public health and safety.
