Gunmen kidnap 12 female farmers in Borno

A group of unidentified gunmen, believed to be Boko Haram terrorists, has abducted at least 12 women in Mussa district, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. The incident occurred on Saturday evening as the female farmers were returning from their farms.

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the abduction, with the Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, stating that an investigation has been launched into the matter. Although details of the incident are still limited, efforts are underway to gather more information.

This latest incident is part of a series of attacks by armed groups in the northern region of Nigeria. Last Monday, 25 schoolgirls were abducted from a school in Kebbi State, resulting in the death of the school principal. In a separate incident, more than 300 schoolchildren were taken from schools in Niger State, with 50 managing to escape.

Additionally, an attack on a church in Kwara State last Tuesday left three people dead and 38 worshippers abducted. However, the Kwara State Government has reported that all 38 abducted worshippers have since been freed.

The ongoing attacks by armed groups in the region have raised concerns about the safety and security of civilians, particularly in rural areas. The Nigerian authorities are facing increasing pressure to address the security challenges and protect vulnerable communities from such attacks. As the investigation into the latest abduction continues, the focus remains on the safe return of the abducted women and the prevention of future incidents.
