Police arrest officers over unprofessional conduct

The Adamawa State Police Command in Nigeria has taken swift action against two of its officers, arresting them for alleged unprofessional conduct. According to a statement released by the command, the officers were detained following a report of unacceptable behavior by police personnel deployed to a checkpoint near the Jimeta Divisional police headquarters.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred when the officers stopped a Mercedes 180 for a routine search. The vehicle’s occupants reportedly resisted, leading to a confrontation. In the course of the encounter, one of the officers fired gunshots at the vehicle’s tires, an action deemed unnecessary and unprofessional by the command. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The command’s statement, issued by RO Suleiman Ngruroje, confirmed that the officers involved have been taken into custody. Commissioner of Police CP Dankombo Morris has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, ensuring that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken once the investigation is complete.

The Adamawa State Police Command’s prompt response to the incident underscores its commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism within its ranks. The command’s assurance of a thorough investigation and potential disciplinary action aims to reassure the public of its dedication to upholding the law and respecting the rights of citizens.

As the investigation unfolds, the command will likely scrutinize the officers’ actions, assessing whether they adhered to established protocols and procedures. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of police accountability and the need for law enforcement agencies to maintain high standards of conduct. With the investigation ongoing, the Adamawa State Police Command is taking steps to address the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
