Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has extended its advocacy for energy security and industrialisation to the University of Ibadan, concentrating on education, youth empowerment and community development. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tony Attah stressed the need to eradicate energy poverty and embrace sustainability as drivers of Nigeria’s economic growth, noting the country’s vast oil and gas resources as a key factor in achieving economic emancipation.

During the university’s alumni homecoming, Attah delivered a lecture titled “Energy, Security and Economic Sustainability: The Role of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector in National Development.” He argued that energy security is closely linked to economic opportunities that can transform the lives of millions of Nigerians, and underscored the importance of sustainable energy development for economic growth and improved living standards.

The event also featured the inauguration of a state‑of‑the‑art synthetic mini‑football pitch, donated by Renaissance and its joint‑venture partners—NNPC Limited, TotalEnergies, and Agip Energy and Natural Resources. Named the “Renaissance JV Arena,” the pitch is intended to promote youth and community development within the university.

Attah received an Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions to the oil and gas industry, his leadership in sustainable energy development, and his commitment to education and community empowerment. He was welcomed by the Faculty of Technology’s Dean, Professor Isaac Bamgboye, and other senior officials.

The homecoming highlighted the importance of collaboration between the private sector and educational institutions in driving economic growth and development. By promoting energy security and sustainability, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited aims to contribute to Nigeria’s economic development and improve the lives of its citizens. The company’s partnership with the University of Ibadan, exemplified by the football‑pitch donation and Attah’s lecture, demonstrates its commitment to education, youth empowerment and community development—initiatives that can play a crucial role in navigating the country’s economic challenges and raising living standards.
