Nigeria has unveiled the National Counter‑Terrorism Centre’s Strategic Plan 2025‑2030, a comprehensive framework designed to strengthen the country’s security architecture and combat terrorism. The launch, led by Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio, took place in Abuja and was attended by high‑ranking government officials, security chiefs, diplomats, private‑sector leaders, and development partners.

The five‑year plan seeks to modernise Nigeria’s security systems, protect citizens from emerging threats, and build a resilient, peaceful nation. Senator Akpabio explained that the strategy provides a structured approach to transforming institutions, leveraging advanced technology, and enhancing intelligence coordination and collaboration across government and society. He stressed the need for sustained investment in technology, training, and personnel to effectively combat terrorism.

Three critical pillars underpin the strategy. First, national resilience will be bolstered through early‑warning systems and community intelligence. Second, modern technology—including drones and cybersecurity platforms—will be integrated into security operations. Third, regional and international cooperation will be enhanced to confront transnational threats.

Representing the National Security Adviser, Major‑General Adamu Laka, the National Coordinator of the NCTC highlighted the social drivers of violent extremism, such as unemployment, drug abuse, and lack of opportunities. He noted that initiatives like the “Seeds of Hope” program, which rehabilitates terrorism victims through agriculture and livelihoods, will strengthen intelligence, operations, and national resilience.

Dr. Usman Hussain, representing the African Union Commission, praised Nigeria’s leadership in counter‑terrorism and announced upcoming technical missions and peer‑review engagements to further boost the country’s capacity. Development partners, diplomats, security chiefs, and private‑sector leaders pledged their support, describing the initiative as crucial for national stability and economic growth.

The unveiling of the Strategic Plan 2025‑2030 marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and violent extremism. Its implementation is expected to enhance national security, stimulate economic development, and promote regional stability. With the backing of international partners and stakeholders, Nigeria is poised to make substantial progress toward a more secure and prosperous future for its citizens.
