Insecurity: APC only concerned about receiving defectors - Buba Galadima

Buba Galadima, a member of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, has sharply criticized the All Progressives Congress‑led federal government for its handling of Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation. Speaking on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” program, Galadima accused the administration of prioritising politics over governance, claiming that 99 % of its time is spent on politicking.

He argued that effective governance in a country like Nigeria demands dedication and sacrifice from leaders, not a focus on personal gain. According to Galadima, officials should devote the majority of their time to confronting the nation’s challenges rather than indulging in leisure activities. The current administration, he contended, is more preoccupied with welcoming defectors and undermining opposition parties than with tackling pressing issues such as insecurity.

Galadima warned that the destruction of opposition parties could have far‑reaching consequences, including the erosion of democracy and a slide toward fascism and dictatorship. He urged the government to reconsider its priorities, emphasizing the need to protect lives and property and to recognise the importance of a robust opposition in a democratic system.

Nigeria has been grappling with worsening insecurity—terrorist attacks, banditry, and kidnappings—that have caused significant human and economic losses. The government’s response has drawn criticism, with many calling for a more effective, sustained approach to address the root causes of insecurity. Galadima’s remarks underscore the need for the government to rebalance its priorities and focus more on these urgent challenges.

As the country prepares for upcoming elections, insecurity is likely to remain a major concern for voters, and the government’s handling of the issue will be closely scrutinised. The international community is also watching Nigeria, with calls for greater support and cooperation to mitigate the regional and global implications of the nation’s insecurity.
