Nigerian Actress Quits Church Over Fashion Criticism

Nigerian actress Ariyike Owolagba, also known as Ariyiike Dimples, has shared her reasons for abstaining from church attendance. In a recent podcast episode, the media personality revealed that she stopped going to church for three years after a church elder criticized her fashion sense.

The incident occurred when Owolagba wore a pencil skirt to church, which the elder deemed indecent. The actress was taken aback by the elder’s comment, stating that she would go to hell for her choice of attire. This experience led to her frustration and subsequent decision to quit attending church services.

Owolagba noted that her community church struggled to attract young people, citing the strict doctrines and judgmental attitude of some members. She emphasized the need for a more inclusive and simplified approach to religious teachings, allowing young individuals to feel welcome and accepted.

The actress recalled the elder reporting her to her father, which prompted her to send a picture of the skirt to her mother to prove that her outfit was not indecent. However, her father’s adherence to the community’s values led Owolagba to avoid the church to prevent further conflict.

Despite her decision to stop attending church, Owolagba affirmed that she remains a practicing Christian. Her experience highlights the challenges faced by some churches in balancing traditional values with the needs and expectations of younger generations.

The incident has sparked a broader discussion about the role of churches in modern society and the importance of creating an inclusive environment for all members. As a public figure, Owolagba’s story may encourage others to share their experiences and promote greater understanding and tolerance within religious communities.
