Lagos State Speaker Mudashiru Obasa stressed that the 2026 budget must reflect the aspirations of the people and address their most pressing social and economic needs. He made the remarks during Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu’s formal presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill at the Lagos Assembly complex. The proposed ₦4.237 trillion budget, dubbed the “Budget of Shared Prosperity,” should concentrate on reinforcing economic resilience, improving welfare, strengthening security, and fostering long‑lasting infrastructure development across all communities in the state.

Obasa highlighted that Lagos’ current status results from hard work, creativity, and laws that encourage innovation and excellence. He noted that under his leadership the Assembly has recorded significant growth, passing more than 100 laws and 1,500 resolutions in ten years. He commended Governor Sanwo‑Olu and his team for crafting a comprehensive budget that mirrors Lagos’ pursuit of growth and inclusive development. According to the speaker, the state’s strength rests on unity, deliberate planning, inclusive policies, and responsible governance—essential elements for guiding decisions on the proposed 2026 spending plan.

The speaker pointed out that the Assembly has consistently supported the executive by enacting legislation aimed at improving residents’ quality of life, including measures that promote socio‑economic expansion, local government reforms, and stronger institutional frameworks for effective governance. He praised Governor Sanwo‑Olu’s leadership, noting his consistent record of responsibly navigating economic pressures and driving major infrastructural projects. The proposed budget prioritizes critical sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, security, and governance, which are vital to sustaining progress.

Obasa affirmed that lawmakers will thoroughly examine the bill to ensure it serves the collective interest of the people. He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, citing the Renewed Hope Agenda’s measurable national improvements and ongoing infrastructure upgrades across Nigeria. The consideration of the 2026 budget marks a significant step toward addressing the social and economic needs of Lagos State residents, and the Assembly is expected to carefully evaluate resource allocations to ensure they align with the people’s aspirations and promote sustainable development in the state.
