Dangote Refinery Expands Capacity to 1.4mbd with Honeywell Partnership

Dangote Group has announced a strategic partnership with Honeywell International Inc. to accelerate the expansion of its petroleum refinery to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028, up from the current 650,000 barrels per day. This collaboration is a significant step towards establishing the world’s largest petroleum refining complex.

Under the agreement, Honeywell will provide advanced technologies, including catalysts and equipment, to enable the refinery to process a wider range of crude grades, improve product quality, and enhance operational reliability. The partnership will also extend to Dangote’s petrochemical operations, with plans to scale up polypropylene production to 2.4 million metric tonnes annually using Honeywell’s Oleflex technology.

In addition to the refinery expansion, Dangote is also increasing its fertiliser production, with plans to boost urea output from 3 million to 9 million metric tonnes annually. This will be achieved by adding four new production trains to its existing facility. The company’s commitment to building world-class industrial capacity is aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s energy security and driving sustainable economic growth through innovation and strategic global partnerships.

The expansion of the refinery is a significant development for Nigeria’s energy sector, as it will increase the country’s refining capacity and reduce its reliance on imported petroleum products. The partnership with Honeywell is a testament to Dangote’s ambition to operate a world-class refining complex, with a focus on efficiency, quality, and reliability.

The Dangote Refinery project has been underway for several years, with the goal of creating a major industrial complex that will drive economic growth and development in Nigeria. The partnership with Honeywell is a key milestone in the project’s development, and is expected to play a crucial role in the refinery’s expansion plans. With the refinery’s expanded capacity, Dangote is poised to become a major player in the global petroleum refining industry, with a focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
