The Lagos State Task Force has pledged to intensify its crackdown on traffic and environmental violations throughout the state. Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele warned that offenders will face swift arrest and prosecution, stressing the need for collaborative action to curb the growing incidents of urban disorder in Lagos.
At a stakeholders’ engagement session held in the Safety Arena, Bolade, Oshodi, Akerele briefed market leaders, transport operators and artisans on the agency’s renewed enforcement strategy. The meeting, titled “Promoting Safety and Serenity Through Traffic and Environmental Best Practices,” aimed to raise awareness of the importance of complying with traffic and environmental regulations.
Akerele highlighted the human and economic losses caused by the persistent Okada menace, drug abuse, one‑way driving, traffic violations and related criminal behaviours. He affirmed that Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu’s administration is determined to eliminate these threats to public safety. The task force’s establishment reflects a deliberate effort by the state government to reduce losses linked to lawlessness and criminal activity.
The Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017 and the Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 provide the legal framework for the task force’s operations, enforcing zero tolerance for Okada operations on highways, one‑way driving, street trading, illegal structures and other practices that undermine safety and urban order.
Akerele urged Lagos residents to support ongoing enforcement by reporting violations and suspicious activities. He emphasized community involvement as essential to making neighborhoods safer, encouraging reports of illegal developments, blackspots, drug addicts and miscreants. Reports can be made at the agency headquarters or via designated phone numbers.
The task force’s renewed enforcement strategy represents a significant step toward addressing urban disorder in Lagos. By collaborating with communities and stakeholders, the agency aims to create a safer, more orderly environment for residents. The initiative’s success will depend on active participation from Lagos residents in reporting violations and supporting the task force’s efforts.
