President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a modern, professional police force and reforming Nigeria’s security architecture. This pledge coincides with the graduation of 1,187 cadets from the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano, a milestone that underscores the country’s efforts to strengthen its security sector.

The ceremony, attended by senior government officials including the Minister of Police Affairs and the Inspector General of Police, highlighted the Academy’s evolution into a degree‑awarding institution. Speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, President Tinubu praised the Academy for producing officers equipped to meet Nigeria’s evolving security challenges. He described the graduation as evidence of progress toward a more secure and prosperous future, commending the Academy for its world‑class training and alignment with his goal of an honest, professional, and human‑rights‑respecting police force. The new officers were urged to uphold integrity, fairness and discipline as they safeguard lives and property nationwide.

Commandant AIG Patrick Adedeji Atayero announced that the graduates had successfully completed both academic and professional training, earning bachelor’s degrees in various disciplines. He lauded the cohort as “worthy in character and learning” and noted the Academy’s growth since its establishment in 1998. Plans are underway to launch postgraduate and diploma programmes to further strengthen police education.

President Tinubu assured continued federal support for the Police Academy and other security agencies, promising investments in training, resources and equipment to enhance effectiveness. The graduation marks a significant step toward the administration’s goal of a modern, professional police force, with the new officers expected to play a crucial role in maintaining law and order. The Academy’s expansion demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to security sector reform and its capacity to produce highly trained, professional personnel, which should positively impact the nation’s security landscape.
