A deadly attack has occurred in Yankamaye village, located in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Nigeria. On Saturday at approximately 11pm, dozens of armed bandits stormed the village, resulting in the death of a woman and the abduction of three others. The bandits, who arrived on motorcycles, approached the village on foot to avoid detection, launching a surprise attack on the sleeping residents.
According to sources within the village, the bandits shot and killed an elderly woman who had attempted to intervene on behalf of her son, pleading with the attackers to spare his life. Despite her efforts, the bandits proceeded to abduct her son. The attackers then targeted another household, abducting two women, including the sister-in-law of a local ward councillor.
The village of Yankamaye, situated approximately 5km from Rimaye town in neighboring Katsina State, has experienced frequent bandit attacks in recent times. This surge in attacks follows the signing of a “peace accord” between bandits and neighboring Katsina communities. Nearby villages, such as Sundu and Buresawa, have also fallen victim to similar attacks, with at least eight people abducted during a late-night raid on Biresawa village on Monday.
The police have yet to release a statement regarding the incident. The attacks on Yankamaye and surrounding villages highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the region. The frequent abductions and violence have created a climate of fear, with residents living in constant uncertainty. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how authorities will respond to the growing insecurity in the area.
