The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised its members to adopt prudent financial management practices and avoid extravagant lifestyles. The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, gave this advice during his visit to the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Corps Members deployed to Edo State at the Orientation Camp in Okada. He emphasized the importance of living within their means and being security-conscious at all times.
General Nafiu reaffirmed the NYSC Management’s commitment to the security and welfare of all Corps Members, while also urging them to promote national unity and uphold the scheme’s core values. He encouraged the Corps Members to form friendships across different cultural divides and demonstrate virtues such as loyalty, commitment, discipline, and hard work.
The NYSC Edo State Coordinator, Mrs. Ben-Ushie Frances, welcomed the Director-General and reported that 1,634 Corps Members were registered in the new batch. She described them as resourceful and diligent, noting their active participation in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training and other Camp activities. Mrs. Frances also highlighted the strong synergy amongst Camp officials working towards a successful Orientation programme.
The visit underscored the NYSC’s focus on equipping Corps Members with essential life skills and values. The scheme aims to promote national unity and development through the deployment of young graduates to various parts of the country. By emphasizing prudent financial management and security awareness, the NYSC seeks to ensure that its members are well-equipped to navigate the challenges of their service year and beyond.
As the Corps Members begin their service year, they are expected to apply the values and skills acquired during the Orientation programme. The NYSC’s commitment to their security and welfare is crucial in enabling them to make a positive impact in their host communities. With a strong foundation in place, the Corps Members are poised to make a meaningful contribution to national development and growth.
