Adeleke Denies Neglecting Governance Amid Election Preparations

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has refuted allegations made by The Osun Masterminds, a coalition of civil society organizations, that his administration has neglected governance as the 2026 governorship election approaches. The group, in its November State-of-the-State address, claimed that the government had abandoned key responsibilities in pursuit of political advantage, resulting in significant setbacks in governance.

According to Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, Executive Director of The Osun Masterminds, the governor has been largely absent from public view as election preparations intensify. The group also criticized the delayed recruitment of teachers, describing it as a failed promise. Furthermore, they raised concerns about a leadership crisis within the Osun Amotekun Corps, arguing that the security outfit’s reduced functionality comes at a time of rising insecurity nationwide.

The Osun Masterminds emphasized that despite being an election year, the administration must continue to deliver on its mandate until its final day in office. They urged state officials to prioritize the public service for which they are paid, stating that it is unacceptable to sacrifice governance for political expediency.

In response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the allegations, describing The Osun Masterminds as a group funded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and driven by ulterior motives. Rasheed accused Prof. Oyedokun-Alli of distorting facts, citing his recent unsuccessful bid to join the South West Development Commission as evidence of compromised objectivity.

Rasheed maintained that governance in Osun is running seamlessly, and that those obsessed with 2026 politics are the sponsors and patrons of The Osun Masterminds. He urged citizens to remain vigilant against groups using civic platforms for personal gain. The exchange highlights the ongoing political tensions in Osun State as the 2026 governorship election draws near. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the administration will address the concerns raised by The Osun Masterminds and other stakeholders.
