Kano Government Addresses Achaba Motorcycle Menace

The Kano State Government has acknowledged public concerns over the resurgence of commercial motorcycle activities, known as Achaba, in various parts of the state. According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, verified reports indicate that Achaba operations have re-emerged in several areas within Kano city, as well as in nearby and border communities, despite being banned in the state.

The government has received intelligence about unknown individuals using motorcycles to operate as commercial riders in some parts of the metropolis. In response, the Kano State Government is reviewing public suggestions, including enhanced monitoring and surveillance at all entry and exit points, as part of a broader security assessment and response strategy.

To address the issue, the government is taking new measures to protect lives and property across all 44 local government areas. Security agencies have been given the necessary support and are working to effectively monitor the situation. The government is also open to providing additional assistance to security agencies as needed.
