Atiku Urged to Run as VP Under Peter Obi in 2027 Polls

2027: ADC momentum fades as top opposition leaders delay defection

The Ohanaeze Youth Council, a socio-political organization, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to run as the Vice Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections. This suggestion is part of a proposed strategy to strengthen the party’s chances of winning, with Peter Obi as the Presidential candidate.

According to Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, this pairing would be a viable calculation for the ADC to defeat incumbent President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Igboayaka emphasized that Peter Obi’s potential presidency could lead to a national rebirth in Nigeria.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council’s advice is based on the current political landscape, where the National Chairman of the ADC hails from the Northern region. Igboayaka argued that, given this context, it would be reasonable for Atiku Abubakar to support a Southern candidate for the presidency. Since Southern Nigeria is slated to complete its tenure in 2031, the Ohanaeze Youth Council believes it is imperative for the ADC to choose its candidate from the South for the 2027 Presidential election.

The council’s president criticized the current administration of President Bola Tinubu, stating that it has allegedly failed Nigerians. He suggested that a Peter Obi-Atiku Abubakar ticket could be a viable solution for the country’s challenges. Igboayaka emphasized that Atiku Abubakar should prioritize the nation’s interests by willingly deputizing Peter Obi in the 2027 Presidential Election.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council has vowed to resist any attempts to further marginalize the Igbo nation. As the 2027 elections approach, the council’s proposal has sparked interest in the potential alliances and strategies that could shape the outcome of the polls. The ADC’s decision on its candidates will be crucial in determining the party’s chances of success in the upcoming elections.
