PDP Chairman Vows Transparency and Integrity

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Tanimu Turaki, has pledged to ensure transparency, fairness, and equity within the party, allowing only individuals with integrity and credibility to be nominated for elections. Turaki made this statement at a banquet and book presentation honoring former Minister of Information and Culture, Jerry Gana, on his 80th birthday.

Turaki, who was elected Chairman of the PDP at the party’s national convention in November 2025, reiterated his commitment to reforming the party and restoring internal democracy. He responded to comments by former Niger State Governor, Babangida Mu’azu, who noted that Nigeria missed the opportunity to have Jerry Gana as President. Turaki stated that the new PDP will provide a platform for individuals like Gana, with qualities of integrity and credibility, to secure a place on the ballot.

The PDP Chairman described Gana as a “man of credibility” and a “politician’s politician,” who has maintained his integrity despite holding several public offices. Turaki emphasized that the party will prioritize transparency, fairness, and equity in its processes, allowing the people to decide what they want and how they want it.

The event also featured the presentation of a biography on Jerry Gana, titled “Jerry Gana: Stewardship in Integrity,” authored by Mark Simon, with a foreword by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The book highlights Gana’s achievements in academics, public life, politics, and private life, as well as his commitment to integrity and credibility.

Turaki’s pledge to reform the PDP and promote transparency and fairness is significant, as the party seeks to reestablish itself as a major force in Nigerian politics. The party’s commitment to integrity and credibility is likely to resonate with voters, who have increasingly demanded more accountability from their leaders. As the PDP moves forward under Turaki’s leadership, it remains to be seen whether the party can deliver on its promises and provide a viable alternative to the current political establishment.
