Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke Resigns from PDP

In a significant development, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just hours before the party’s governorship primary election. According to a letter dated November 4, 2025, which surfaced on Monday, Governor Adeleke cited the ongoing crisis within the party’s national leadership as the reason for his decision.

The letter, which was made public, stated that due to the current crisis, Adeleke was resigning his membership from the PDP with immediate effect. He expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities he had received, including his elections as a Senator representing Osun West and as Governor of Osun State under the PDP banner.

The PDP Chairman in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, confirmed on Monday that the party’s primary election, initially scheduled for Tuesday, would not proceed as planned due to the factional crisis within the party. Bisi also revealed that Governor Adeleke was no longer interested in contesting for the party’s nomination, citing the crisis as the reason.

This development comes at a critical time for the PDP, which has been grappling with internal conflicts. The party has been working to resolve its differences and present a united front ahead of upcoming elections. Governor Adeleke’s resignation and the postponement of the primary election are likely to have significant implications for the party’s fortunes in Osun State.

The crisis within the PDP has been ongoing, with various factions vying for control. The party’s national leadership has been working to address the issues, but the situation remains unresolved. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the consequences of Governor Adeleke’s resignation and the PDP’s internal crisis will be closely watched. The next steps for the party and its members will be critical in determining the outcome of future elections in Osun State and beyond.
