The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a decline in Nigeria’s average retail petrol price. According to the NBS Petrol Price Watch for October 2025, the price fell from N1,184.83 in October 2024 to N1,052.31 in October 2025, an 11.18 percent decrease. However, compared with the previous month, the average retail price rose by 8.42 percent, up from N970.59 in September.
The report also examined state‑level prices. Kogi, Sokoto and Borno recorded the highest average retail prices at N1,110.00, N1,105.93 and N1,101.63 per litre, respectively. In contrast, Oyo, Nasarawa and Abia had the lowest averages, at N1,001.79, N1,009.38 and N1,012.50 per litre. A zonal analysis showed the North‑East region with the highest average price at N1,072.74 per litre, while the South‑West region recorded the lowest at N1,032.81 per litre.
The NBS also released its Diesel Price Watch Report for October 2025. The average retail diesel price was N1,398.57 per litre, a 2.96 percent drop from N1,441.28 in October 2024. On a month‑on‑month basis, diesel prices increased by 9.45 percent, rising from N1,277.81 per litre in September 2025.
State‑level diesel prices varied, with Enugu, Niger and Jigawa posting the highest averages at N1,468.29, N1,465.69 and N1,437.40 per litre, respectively. The lowest prices were observed in Katsina, Edo and Kebbi, at N1,301.24, N1,307.84 and N1,308.94 per litre. Zonal analysis indicated that the South‑East region had the highest diesel price at N1,415.85 per litre, while the South‑South region recorded the lowest at N1,387.18 per litre.
These findings highlight current trends and regional variations in fuel prices across Nigeria, providing essential data for policymakers, businesses and individuals to make informed decisions about energy consumption and resource allocation.
