APC Candidate Defends Governor Alia Against Ethnic Sentiment Claims

Benue South Senatorial Candidate Dismisses Claim of Governor’s Alleged Hatred for Idoma People

Comrade Daniel Onjeh, the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Benue South in the 2023 election, has rejected Senator Patrick Abba Moro’s assertion that Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia harbors hatred towards the Idoma people. Onjeh described Moro’s statement as “ill-informed” and “malicious,” aimed at misleading the public and inciting ethnic sentiment.

According to Onjeh, the facts contradict Moro’s allegation, citing Governor Alia’s commitment to inclusion and affection towards the people of Benue South. He noted that key ministries such as Finance, Education, and Water Resources are led by competent individuals from Benue South, which suggests that the Governor trusts and values their contributions.

Onjeh highlighted several ongoing development projects in Benue South, including road rehabilitation and construction, water works, and major infrastructure initiatives. These projects, he argued, demonstrate the Governor’s dedication to the region’s growth and development. Additionally, Onjeh pointed out that Governor Alia’s policies have directly benefited the poorest households in the zone, including the payment of unpaid salaries, gratuities, and pensions, which has injected disposable income into the economy and strengthened small businesses.

Onjeh also recalled a personal conversation with Governor Alia, during which they discussed issues affecting Benue South for nearly three hours. He emphasized that the Governor’s constant engagement with the Deputy Governor on the zone’s affairs further underscores his commitment to the region’s development.

The dismissal of Moro’s claim comes as Governor Alia’s administration continues to implement policies and projects aimed at promoting economic growth and social development in Benue State. The Governor’s efforts to address the needs of Benue South, in particular, have been evident in his allocation of resources and attention to the region’s infrastructure and human capital development. As the 2023 elections approach, the debate over the Governor’s commitment to the Idoma people is likely to continue, with Onjeh’s statement aiming to set the record straight on the administration’s priorities and achievements.
