PDP Disowns Group Urging Governor to Defect to APC

'No Plateau LGA under bandits' control' - Gov Mutfwang

The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denounced a group within the party for organizing a rally that called on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement issued by the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Hon. Felix Choji, the party described the group as “strange and faceless” and stated that it is not recognized by the party or its leadership.

According to Hon. Choji, the group, led by Hon. Christopher Danjem, is acting on behalf of its sponsors from the APC, who are attempting to distract and destabilize the PDP and undermine the governor’s efforts in the state. The group had staged a press conference on December 1, 2025, where they urged Governor Mutfwang to leave the PDP and join the APC.

The PDP has categorically denied any affiliation with the group, stating that it is not a registered support platform or affiliated support group within the state. The party has also distanced itself from the statements made by Danjem and his group, which it claims misrepresent and mislead the public.

Hon. Choji emphasized that the actions of the group do not reflect the true position or interest of the party and urged the public to disregard their claims. He added that the party remains committed to providing accurate information about its operations and will continue to focus on its mandate and ideology, which centers on democracy, national cohesion, social justice, and good governance.

The development comes as the PDP in Plateau State continues to work towards consolidating its position and promoting the interests of its members and the state at large. The party has been working to strengthen its structures and build on the progress made by Governor Mutfwang, who has been implementing various development projects and initiatives in the state.

The denial by the PDP is significant, as it highlights the ongoing efforts by the party to maintain its integrity and cohesion in the face of attempts by opposition parties to destabilize it. The incident also underscores the need for political parties to be vigilant and proactive in addressing internal conflicts and external interference that can undermine their effectiveness and credibility.
