Benin Republic has announced its 30‑man preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with Remo Stars goalkeeper Serge Obassa securing a place. Obassa, who joined Remo Stars at the start of the 2024/25 season, has become a regular in the Cheetahs’ lineup, showcasing both skill and consistency. The squad, named by head coach Gernot Rohr, also includes two other goalkeepers: Saturnin Allagbe and Dandjinou Marcel.
Among the out‑field players, captain Steve Mounie leads a group that features Mohamed Tijani, Verdon Oliver, Djodel Dosou, Junior Olaitan and Tosin Aiyegun. Rohr is expected to trim the list to 25 players next week, ahead of the tournament.
The Cheetahs will begin their preparations with a training camp in Ben Slimane, Morocco, starting on 10 December. Drawn into Group D, Benin will face two‑time champions Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Botswana—a grouping that promises intense competition for the coveted knockout‑stage spots.
Benin’s participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations marks a significant milestone for a national team that has been building toward this moment for years. Blending experienced veterans with emerging talent, the squad aims to make a strong impression. As the Cheetahs gear up to challenge some of Africa’s best sides, fans will watch with anticipation, hoping for a successful campaign in one of the continent’s most prestigious football tournaments.
