Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, acknowledged the country’s current struggles with terrorism but affirmed a determination to overcome these challenges. Speaking at a dialogue on preventing violence and conflict in northern Nigeria, Ribadu described the period as “painful times” and stressed that Nigeria will not abandon its fight against terrorism. The event, organized by the National Peace Committee, the Kukah Centre, and the Office of the National Security Adviser, gathered stakeholders to discuss society’s role in preventing violence and conflict.
Ribadu highlighted that Nigeria remains the only functioning democracy in the Sahel region and pledged to protect this achievement. He vowed that the nation will defeat terror, restore order, and refuse to surrender to the difficulties it faces. Emphasizing community involvement, he noted that when communities are empowered to resolve their own disputes, the need for military intervention diminishes significantly. According to Ribadu, communities, religious leaders, traditional rulers, local government authorities, and state governments all play critical roles in achieving peace.
He underscored Nigeria’s desire for peace and the right of its people to live in a stable, prosperous society. Ribadu called for sincerity and shared responsibility in building a united nation.
