The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has announced that two lawmakers have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join its ranks. According to a statement by PDP Publicity Secretary Halliru Andi, Sulaiman Hassan‑Bosko and Nura Dahiru, who represent the Mafara I and Birnin Magaji constituencies respectively, have now become members of the PDP.
The defection is being hailed as a significant development in the state’s political landscape. The PDP attributes the move to the “deepening crisis, internal rancour, and poor leadership” within the APC. The party’s spokesperson added that the lawmakers were motivated by the exemplary leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, who has prioritized security, infrastructure, transparency, and the restoration of the state’s pride.
The two legislators informed the state assembly of their decision during a plenary session on Thursday, where Speaker Alhaji Bilyaminu Ismail read their letters of defection. The PDP has welcomed the new members, assuring them of full integration and cooperation.
