PDP Constitutes Caretaker Committees in Lagos, Ekiti States

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has established caretaker committees in Lagos and Ekiti states. According to a statement by Umar Bature, the party’s National Organizing Secretary, the move aims to oversee the party’s affairs in the two states.

In Lagos, the caretaker committee is headed by Elder Kayode Ogunbiyi as Chairman, with Chief Adele Bankole serving as Vice Chairman. The committee comprises 17 members, including Mrs. Akinro Bolaji Rosaline, Mrs. Adebimpe Maria, and Mr. Ifeanyi Okeke. The statement outlined the committee’s responsibilities, citing Section 21(2) (a-b) of the party’s constitution, which tasks them with running the party’s affairs in the state for a period of one month or until a new executive is elected.

The committee is expected to adhere strictly to the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended), the Electoral Act (2010), and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended). The party’s leadership has expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to carry out its duties effectively.

Similarly, the PDP has constituted a caretaker committee in Ekiti State, headed by Omolashe Lanre as Chairman. The committee’s membership includes Femi Philips, Gani Bakare, and Akande Babatunde, among others. The Ekiti State committee has been tasked with the same responsibilities as its Lagos counterpart, with a focus on upholding the party’s constitution and relevant laws.

The establishment of these caretaker committees is a significant development in the PDP’s efforts to reorganize and strengthen its presence in the two states. As the party navigates its internal dynamics, the success of these committees will be crucial in restoring stability and cohesion within the party’s ranks. With the committees in place, the PDP is poised to move forward with its plans, focusing on rebuilding and preparing for future elections. The party’s leadership will likely be monitoring the committees’ progress closely, with the aim of ensuring a smooth transition and a strong foundation for the party’s future growth.
