Ekiti Gubernatorial Suit Adjourned Till December 8

The Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti has adjourned a case challenging the victory of Dr. Wole Oluyede in the Peoples Democratic Party’s gubernatorial primary election. The case, filed by Funsho Ayeni, has been scheduled for further hearing on December 8, 2025.

Oluyede emerged as the winner of the primary election, which was conducted on November 8, 2025, by the Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo-led electoral committee. He secured 279 votes, defeating Ayeni and Mrs. Funmi Ogun in the process. The suit, numbered FHC/AD/CS/29/2025, is seeking to overturn Oluyede’s victory.

During the court hearing, Ayeni was represented by a team of lawyers led by Kola Kolade, SAN, while Oluyede’s legal team was headed by Ola Olanipekun, SAN, and Barrister Owoseni Ajayi. The Osun State Legal Adviser of the PDP, Barrister Ola Alonge, also appeared in court on behalf of the party.

After listening to submissions from both parties, Justice Babs Ikuewumi assured that the case would be given a speedy hearing. The judge’s decision to adjourn the matter to December 8, 2025, is aimed at ensuring that all parties have sufficient time to prepare their arguments.

The outcome of this case is significant, as it may impact the Peoples Democratic Party’s preparations for the upcoming gubernatorial election. The party’s candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, is currently facing a challenge to his legitimacy, which could potentially affect his ability to campaign effectively.

As the case progresses, it is likely that both parties will present additional evidence and arguments to support their claims. The court’s decision will ultimately determine the validity of Oluyede’s victory in the primary election and potentially shape the course of the gubernatorial election. With the adjournment, all parties will now focus on preparing for the next hearing, which is scheduled to take place in December.
