Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum announced that his administration has allocated approximately N100 billion for security operations across the state this year. He made the disclosure during a visit to the Emir of Uba, Ali Ibn Mamza, at the emir’s palace in Uba town, Askira/Uba Local Government Area, where he assessed the prevailing security situation.
The ongoing insecurity in parts of southern Borno has hampered progress on road projects, as contractors are reluctant to work in high‑risk areas. While Governor Zulum affirmed his intention to construct new roads, he noted that the lack of security makes it difficult to find willing contractors. To mitigate this challenge, the state is establishing a quarry in Gwoza and procuring 100 trucks so that its road maintenance agency can undertake projects directly.
The substantial allocation of funds to security operations underscores the state’s commitment to tackling the prevailing insecurity. Governor Zulum emphasized that, had peace prevailed, the N100 billion spent on security could have been redirected to critical sectors such as education and health. He remains determined to commence road construction and new educational facilities once the security situation improves.
The Emir of Uba acknowledged the state government’s efforts to deliver projects despite the security challenges. The collaboration between the governor and community leaders highlights the importance of joint action in addressing security concerns and promoting development in the region. As the security landscape evolves, the state’s allocation of resources will be closely monitored to ensure that development projects are implemented effectively.
