The National Executive Council of the Accord party has taken significant steps ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, Nigeria. In a recent meeting, the council approved the establishment of a Caretaker Committee for the Osun State Chapter, with Pastor Victor Akande as its chairman, following the expiration of the previous leadership’s tenure.
In preparation for the gubernatorial primaries, the NEC also approved the Electoral Guidelines, which outline the rules and procedures for the election. Furthermore, an Electoral Committee was constituted to oversee the 2026 Osun State governorship primaries, with the party expressing confidence in its ability to win the election.
In a bid to strengthen its ranks, the party granted a general waiver to numerous Nigerians who have recently joined the party and wish to contest elections on its platform. This move is expected to boost the party’s chances in the upcoming election.
Additionally, the NEC approved the establishment of Women and Youth Directorates at various levels of the party, including national, zonal, state, local government, ward, and polling unit levels. This development is aimed at enhancing membership drive and grassroots mobilization of citizens across the country.
In a gesture of unity and progress, the party lifted the suspension of some members in Osun State, as it prepares for the gubernatorial election. The NEC also passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem as National Chairman, demonstrating its commitment to stability and cohesion.
