The Labour Party in Sokoto State, Nigeria, has held its state congress, marking a significant step toward repositioning the party for success in the 2027 general elections. Supervised by Mr. Yemi Adeyemi, a member of the party’s National Planning Committee, the congress elected a new executive team and renewed calls for unity among party members. Adeyemi emphasized that a united party is the foundation for electoral victory and urged members to remain committed to the party’s goals.

State leader Mr. Ifeanyi Ezeagu described the congress as a crucial step toward rebuilding trust and expanding the party’s presence in Sokoto. He highlighted the need for intensified grassroots mobilization, citing the country’s current condition and the demand for change. Addressing defections to the ruling party, Ezeagu noted that many join for selfish reasons but expressed confidence that the Labour Party in Sokoto is “back on track” and committed to helping reclaim the country from leaders who have driven it into hardship.

The outgoing state secretary, Alhaji Umar, commended delegates from all 23 local government areas for their peaceful conduct during the congress. The newly elected state chairman, Abubakar Yawale, pledged to run an inclusive and transparent administration, ensuring leadership without sentiment or bias. He called on all members to support the new team in achieving the objective of taking over the Sokoto State Government House in the 2027 elections.

The congress was conducted peacefully, and delegates expressed optimism about the party’s renewed direction in Sokoto State. Strengthening its base is significant given Nigeria’s current political landscape, and the party’s ability to unite and mobilize members will be crucial as the 2027 general elections approach. Moving forward, the Labour Party must maintain a strong, unified front and continue promoting its vision for the state and the country. The outcome of the congress and the party’s future plans will be closely watched by political observers and citizens alike as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming elections.
