Security is everybody's business - Lagos Speaker, Obasa

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, stressed that security is a collective responsibility that affects everyone. He made this point at a stakeholders meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos on Saturday, emphasizing that individuals must take an active interest in the safety of their immediate environment.

Obasa acknowledged Nigeria’s current security challenges but underscored the need for a collaborative effort to combat insecurity. He expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ability to address these challenges, citing the president’s past achievements and ongoing initiatives. “We have seen the president in action and how he is innovating and working hard to resolve our many challenges, especially insecurity, and we believe he will get it done,” Obasa said. He added that supporting the president is crucial, stating, “He is still the man that can do it. That is why we must do everything within our powers to ensure that he is returned in 2027.”

Obasa’s call to action highlights both individual and collective responsibility in enhancing security. By urging everyone to participate in the fight against insecurity, he reinforces the idea that security is not solely the government’s duty but a shared obligation among all citizens. This perspective aligns with broader discussions on community policing and public participation in crime prevention and security management.

As Nigeria continues to navigate its security challenges, the emphasis on a collective approach may signal a shift toward more inclusive, community‑driven strategies. The success of such an approach will depend on active citizen engagement, alongside government efforts to provide the necessary framework and support for improved security measures. By reinforcing that security is everybody’s business, Obasa’s statement contributes to a growing narrative aimed at mobilizing public awareness and participation in addressing Nigeria’s security concerns.
