Kcee addresses Flavour rift and music industry beef

Nigerian musician Kingsley Okonkwo, known professionally as Kcee, has addressed a long-standing feud with fellow singer Flavour. The rift between the two artists gained attention in 2024 after Flavour made a comment on social media that many perceived as a slight against another musician for allegedly copying his style. Although Flavour did not mention anyone by name, Kcee responded, advising him to refrain from trying to control the narrative around Igbo cultural music and pointing out that he had been in the industry before Flavour.

In a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee provided background on his relationship with Flavour, tracing their history back to when talent manager Soso Soberekon introduced them. At the time, Soberekon was seeking a record deal for Flavour with Kcee’s label, but Kcee declined, citing that he did not see enough potential in Flavour to offer him a contract.

Kcee believes the current rift between them is not directly due to the rejection but rather stems from a superiority complex among some of his peers. He noted that some colleagues underestimate his talent because he chooses not to boast about his abilities. Kcee reflected on his journey in the music industry, highlighting that he was already successful before Flavour rose to prominence. He mentioned that his humility and lack of need to brag about his talent have contributed to others underestimating him.

The singer emphasized that his hard work and the quality of his music have consistently proven doubters wrong. He recalled instances where those who had underestimated him in the past later apologized and acknowledged their mistake. Kcee’s remarks offer insight into the dynamics at play in the Nigerian music scene, where perceptions of talent, humility, and the passage of time can influence how artists are viewed by their peers and the public.

The situation highlights the complexities of professional relationships in the entertainment industry, where past interactions and perceived slights can simmer beneath the surface. As Kcee and Flavour continue their careers, their comments and actions will be closely watched by fans and industry observers alike. The feud serves as a reminder of the challenges artists face in navigating personal and professional relationships while maintaining their public image and artistic integrity.
