The Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, chaired by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, explained the rationale behind recent disciplinary actions against party members. In a meeting held in Abuja on Sunday, Ohuabunwa said that members whose conduct threatened the party’s unity, stability and credibility were sanctioned in accordance with established party resolutions and the party’s constitution.
The clarification follows the party’s decision to expel several high‑profile figures, including Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, former National Chairman Umar Damagum and others. National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu had previously warned the public against engaging with those involved in the national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ohuabunwa emphasized that the sanctions reflect the new leadership’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the PDP’s integrity. “We gather not merely as leaders, but as custodians of the party’s moral compass, entrusted with guiding the PDP through this difficult period with clarity and purpose,” he said, noting that recent actions demonstrate the party’s resolve to defend its constitution and maintain stability.
According to Ohuabunwa, the measures were not taken lightly; they were necessary to safeguard the party from internal subversion and to restore nationwide confidence. The Board of Trustees’ decision underscores the PDP’s effort to address internal conflicts and ensure adherence to its constitution as it navigates this challenging period, with the emphasis on rule of law and integrity likely to shape its future trajectory.
