The Lagos State Ministry of Justice has opposed any plan to exhume the remains of the late Whitney Adeniran. A proven autopsy conducted by Lagos State University Teaching Hospital confirmed that her death resulted from asphyxia and electrocution. Her death occurred during the school’s inter‑house sports activities on Thursday, February 9, at Agege Stadium.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Director of Public Affairs Alo Grace said, “Adeniran’s death was a result of asphyxia and electrocution, as indicated by the autopsy conducted by Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The Ministry is aware of ongoing discussions about alleged plans to exhume the body of Whitney Omodesola Adeniran, a student of Chrisland Schools. While we have not received any official request for exhumation, should such a request be made, we will oppose it. The circumstances for exhumation under the Coroners’ Systems Law, 2015 do not arise in this case, and we do not intend to further traumatise the deceased’s family.”

The ministry also noted that it is working closely with the police, who have assured that the duplicate case file will be forwarded on Monday, March 6, 2023, to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to facilitate the speedy issuance of legal advice.
