The leader of the pan‑Yoruba socio‑political organisation Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has congratulated President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his victory in the recently concluded presidential election. In a letter made available to our correspondent on Saturday, Fasoranti praised Tinubu’s “doggedness, self‑determination, self‑assuredness, strong belief in self, and ability to overcome daunting and ever‑surging challenges.” He added that God’s grace had given Tinubu the strength of character and abundant energy needed to navigate the intricate problems of a marathon campaign, allowing him to traverse all the states of the federation despite opposition.
Fasoranti urged all Nigerians, as well as the international community, to refrain from actions that could inflame tensions. He called for aggrieved parties to seek redress through peaceful, lawful means and to let Tinubu focus on the nation’s pressing issues—security, economic recovery, restructuring, and rebuilding a country divided along ethnic, religious, and corrupt lines. “We should all go peaceful, take lawful means, and tread legitimate and legal paths to rectify anything that might have, from their own point of view, gone wrong,” he wrote.
The Afenifere leader also advised Tinubu to avoid the mistakes of his predecessors by treating every ethnic group fairly and uniting the country under a federalist approach. He encouraged Tinubu to respect both large and small ethnic groups, fostering pride and inclusion in the spirit of federalism as practiced in the United States. “You now have the opportunity. Now is the time for you to prove me right. I pray to God to be with you,” Fasoranti concluded, assuring that the elders would remain available for consultations and assistance whenever needed.
