'Wike naked wire of Rivers politics, Tinubu picked right PDP product' - Akawor

Former Peoples Democratic Party chairman and former Nigerian ambassador to South Korea, Desmond Akawor, praised Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, calling him a key figure in Rivers State politics. Akawor, who served as Director‑General of Wike’s 2015 governorship campaign, made the comments while leading a delegation to celebrate Wike’s 58th birthday at the minister’s Abuja residence. The gathering was attended by friends, associates and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Speaking on behalf of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Akawor expressed admiration for Wike’s achievements, noting that his success validates President Bola Tinubu’s wise decision to appoint him. He invoked Psalm 90:12 to stress the importance of valuing time and making the most of each day, and he thanked Wike for his leadership, assuring continued support from the people of Rivers State.

Akawor also acknowledged the challenges Wike may face, using the metaphor of a tree with fruitful branches being stoned by children, yet he expressed confidence in Wike’s ability to overcome such obstacles. The event highlighted Wike’s significance in Nigerian politics, especially in his home state, and underscored the strong relationships he has built over the years, with numerous dignitaries and stakeholders in attendance.

As a former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike’s influence extends beyond Rivers State. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by President Tinubu to foster cooperation between the federal government and the opposition party. Observers will continue to watch how Wike navigates the complexities of Nigeria’s political landscape, and his experience and influence suggest he will remain a major player in shaping the country’s political trajectory.
