A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Abiola Ogundokun, has stated that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s bid for a second term is unlikely to succeed following the emergence of Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election. Ogundokun made this remark in Osogbo after Oyebamiji, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), was unanimously adopted as the APC flagbearer at a stakeholders’ gathering.
According to Ogundokun, Oyebamiji’s emergence marks a significant shift in Osun’s political landscape, signaling the potential end of the Adeleke administration. He advised Governor Adeleke to step aside and allow more capable leadership to steer the state forward. Ogundokun also cautioned Dr. Deji Adeleke, the governor’s brother, against pursuing a second term, stating that it would be a futile effort.
Ogundokun praised the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, for his thoughtful and strategic leadership, which he believes has contributed to the APC’s unity and strength in the state. The seamless emergence of Oyebamiji, Ogundokun argued, demonstrates the party’s cohesion under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, in contrast to the internal challenges facing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties in the state.
The APC chieftain commended Oyetola for championing an inclusive and consultative process, which he believes could have destabilized the party under less patient leadership. Ogundokun also praised the aspirants for prioritizing party interests over personal ambitions. The party’s immediate objective, he stated, is to reclaim Osun State from the Adeleke administration and provide residents with genuine dividends of democracy, similar to those achieved under the previous APC government.
Ogundokun urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu’s administration, citing recent economic indicators that suggest a gradual recovery. He noted that fuel prices are declining, scarcity has eased, and infrastructure development is ongoing, with increased funding directed to education and healthcare. Additionally, security is receiving greater attention through enhanced funding and recruitment. The APC’s efforts in Osun State are likely to be closely watched as the 2026 governorship election approaches.
