Connor Storrie, star of the HBO Max series “Heated Rivalry,” has spoken out about the stereotypes surrounding male friendships. In a recent interview with Variety, Storrie discussed his close bond with co-star Hudson Williams, highlighting the cultural discomfort around visible affection between men.
Storrie noted that the time he and Williams spent together, including a week at his home, sparked conversations about how male intimacy is perceived. He explained that their physical displays of affection, such as holding hands or putting his hand on Williams’ leg, were often misinterpreted as romantic due to societal taboos around male friendships.
The actor emphasized that their closeness stemmed from shared experiences during the intense production of the series, which created a deep sense of trust and comfort. Storrie stated that their natural affection towards each other was often sexualized by audiences, reflecting the culture’s lingering discomfort with male intimacy.
“Heated Rivalry” premiered on November 28, 2025, and follows the story of two elite hockey players, played by Williams and Storrie, whose professional rivalry is complicated by romantic feelings. The series, based on Rachel Reid’s novels, explores the challenges their relationship poses to their careers and the rigid expectations of the sport.
In a separate interview with Vanity Fair, Storrie and Williams discussed their off-screen dynamic, with Storrie suggesting that their closeness was not manufactured for the cameras. The actors explained that their chemistry was established before filming began, making intimate scenes feel natural. Williams noted that their comfort level allowed them to easily perform emotionally charged scenes, which were among the easiest he had ever done.
The series has received a strong reception, with fans drawn to the chemistry between the leads. Despite speculation about their off-screen relationship, Storrie stated that he avoids engaging with online discussions, finding it overwhelming. Williams, however, occasionally checks in on the online response, noting that the feedback has been “overwhelmingly positive.” The show’s success has led to a renewal for a second season, with Crave and HBO Max announcing the news on December 12, 2025.
