President Bola Tinubu has extended solidarity to the Tiv people of Benue State as they marked their annual Tiv Day Celebration. The event, themed “The Rebirth of the Tiv Nation,” aims to promote national cohesion, inclusivity, and the protection of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
Through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu described culture as a vital element that shapes identity and strengthens the sense of belonging among communities. He emphasized that cultural heritage serves as a unifying thread, safeguarding traditions, values, and history for future generations.
The President acknowledged the Tiv people’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s growth and development, as well as their bravery during the civil war in standing firm for the country’s unity. He joined the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty, Professor James Ayatse, and the Tiv Area Traditional Council in prayers for a peaceful and successful celebration. President Tinubu also prayed for the Tor Tiv’s longevity, sound health, and divine wisdom as he continues to provide leadership for his people.
The President reiterated the focus of his administration, the Renewed Hope Agenda, which centers on economic reforms, infrastructure expansion, social advancement, food sufficiency, employment generation, and transparent governance. He explained that ongoing reforms and development programs are designed to reposition Nigeria on a path of fairness, stability, and sustainable progress.
President Tinubu called on Tiv and Benue political leaders to embrace unity and collaboration in the interest of peace and development across Tiv land and Benue State. The Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his representation at the event and acknowledged the President’s efforts to improve security in Benue State. He also commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for supporting the celebration, which had been postponed due to insecurity.
The Tor Tiv voiced confidence in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative, saying it holds promise for ending persistent attacks and restoring peace in Benue State. As the Tiv people celebrate their heritage, the event serves as an opportunity for healing and reconciliation, allowing them to come together and work towards a more peaceful and prosperous future.
